Conquise au XIXe si\u00e8cle apr\u00e8s une longue suite d’op\u00e9rations militaires, l’Indochine devient entre les deux guerres un des mod\u00e8les de la grandeur imp\u00e9riale.
\nUne grandeur qui, entre passions, exotisme, b\u00e9n\u00e9fices commerciaux et propagande, a produit un v\u00e9ritable imaginaire masquant les r\u00e9alit\u00e9s du fait colonial et les d\u00e9buts des r\u00eaves d’\u00e9mancipation chez les Indochinois. C’est la t\u00eate emplie de clich\u00e9s que les combattants du corps exp\u00e9ditionnaire s’embarquent en 1946 pour ” rendre l’Indochine \u00e0 la France “. Sur place, au-del\u00e0 d’une guerre \u00e0 laquelle rien ne les a pr\u00e9par\u00e9s, ils d\u00e9couvrent la violence des combats en m\u00eame temps qu’ils sont fascin\u00e9s par le pays.
\nPour restituer la perception ambivalente du soldat, les auteurs ont puis\u00e9 dans une documentation exceptionnelle : albums photo personnels, correspondances priv\u00e9es, tracts et affiches, magazines \u00e9dit\u00e9s en Extr\u00eame-Orient. Collect\u00e9s depuis vingt ans, ces 260 documents, dont la majorit\u00e9 sont totalement in\u00e9dits, permettent de porter un autre regard sur l’aventure et les derniers moments de l’Indochine fran\u00e7aise.<\/p>\n
